Title: A bronze paperweight of a recumbent horse
Period: Qing dynasty (1644-1911)
Dimensions: H 10cm x W 7.2cm x 4.9cm
Very finely modeled horse with three legs folded under and one slightly raised. The proud beast sits with its head held high looking slightly to the left. The fine depiction of the naturalistic elements of the animal including the mouth, eyes and fur are all reminiscent of the Jesuit artist Giuseppe Castiglione’s work on the water clock fountain at Yuanmingyuan (the old summer palace) Beijing, China.
